Position Summary: Under the leadership of the Learning and Development Manager, the Instructional Designer will partner with subject-matter experts and stakeholders from PCA’s Mills, Corrugated Box Plants and Corporate Offices by translating challenging business problems into engaging learning solutions that fit the unique culture and business needs of each of our business units. They will design, develop, and deliver new and scalable experiences that go beyond traditional instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, or self-paced eLearning courses. The Instructional Designer understands critical business needs, analyzes issues, and communicates effectively and cross-functionally to support PCA’s mission of People, Customers and Trust.

The Instructional Designer has expertise in adult learning and instructional design to support the development of all employees in PCA’s Mills, Corrugated Box Plants and Corporate Offices.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Support the Learning and Development Manager by consulting with key stakeholders from PCA’S Mills, Corrugated Box Plants, Corporate Offices and collaborating with the Corporate Engineering, Operations, Human Resources, Environmental Health and Safety, and Marketing teams to meet current and future organizational performance needs.
  • Consult with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to align on learning outcomes, learning experience design components, and timelines to meet shared business goals.
  • Design and write learning experiences to address established objectives and create or curate content as appropriate.
  • Maintain the highest standards throughout the lifecycle of learning design, review, and implementation of programs within established timeframes.
  • Conduct rapid pilot tests and feedback sessions throughout program development phases. Engage in routine quality assurance audits and modify content / activities when necessary to ensure exceptional end-user learning experience.
  • Continually raise the development bar by identifying and implementing new and innovative learning experience design approaches, tools, and systems.
  • Travel to PCA locations as needed to work with subject matter experts and business leaders.
  • Know and follow policies and procedures of the company, share information that would benefit other members of the team and find ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.

Decision Making: This position consults with key business leaders and subject matter experts to identify, define and prioritize challenging business issues, and align on learning outcomes and timelines to meet shared goals. They work with stakeholders to understand critical business needs, analyze issues, and design impactful solutions to improve employee and business performance. They will make decisions on how to design, develop and deliver learning experiences to meet business needs and support PCA strategic goals.

Interactions: This position reports to the Learning and Development Manager. Internally, this position will regularly interact with leaders in PCA’s Mills, Corrugated Box Plants and Corporate Offices and work cross-functionally with the Corporate Engineering, Operations, Human Resources, Environmental Health and Safety, and Marketing teams, among others. Externally, this position will interact with learning solutions and media services providers, learning management system partners, and customer success representatives of new and existing vendor partners.

Position Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to a bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Learning and Development, or related field.
  • 5+ years of learning experience design / instructional design experience designing complex learning experiences across instructor-led, virtual, and eLearning modalities.
  • Proven ability to build, manage, and improve learning programs and projects via ADDIE / SAM design methodologies.
  • Self-starter attitude.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines, maintain a strong attention to detail, and work independently as well as collaboratively in group settings.
  • Works well within a dispersed, cross-functional team.
  • Clear and concise decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment a plus.
  • Must be able to travel and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Up to 10% travel is required.
  • Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.
