Wet-End Operator

JOB SUMMARY
Wet-End Operator is responsible for loading rolls on the corrugator and ensuring single roll facer section of the corrugator is running properly. This operator is responsible for working with the Dry End Operator to ensure the proper paper is loaded for the job being produced. It is, also, this individual’s responsibility to work with the Clamp Roll Forklift Operator to ensure the proper paper is staged. Below is a general job description. However, this job may include additional duties, as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Complete job set-up tasks per operating instructions on the single roll facer section of the corrugator.
- Control single roll facer section of the corrugator using computer and manual controls.
- Inspect roll stock to ensure consistent quality and remove defective rolls as needed.
- Ensure the machine is set up for the proper flute requirement.
- Monitor the starch to ensure it is flowing properly in the single roll facer section.
- Load the necessary roll stock.
- Perform roll stock splices, as needed, to change over rolls.
- Monitor and control the paper temperature leaving the section, adjusting the steamer drum.
- Notify supervisor of defective raw material, equipment, tools, or other conditions which hinder assembly process.
- Perform general clean-up tasks to keep work area clean and free of excess debris.
- Maintain personal work area in accord to Kaweah’s GMP and HACCP expectations.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office and be regularly exposed to the manufacturing environment.
- The noise level in the work environment will require PPE.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Education, Experience, AND SKILLS:
- A high school diploma or GED is generally considered the minimum requirement. Some employers might also prefer technical or vocational training in related fields like mechanics or hydraulics.
- One to two years of experience in a related field, such as working on the dry end of a corrugator or in a similar industrial setting, is often preferred.
- Wet End Operators need strong problem-solving skills, the ability to follow instructions, and a keen understanding of the paper-making process.
