The Opportunity:
As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for coordinating the planning, organizing, and completion of capital projects at the Covington, VA mill.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
- Support and foster safety and environmental compliance
- Understand safe designs, safe work practices, and safe work environments.
- Evaluate the performance of mechanical systems to determine the best option for replacement
- Develop capital CFR documents for capital approval process
- Implement capital projects on time and within budget
- Control project costs by developing bid packages, monitoring expenditures, and administering contracts.
- Establish project schedules by studying specifications, calculating time requirements, and sequencing project elements
- Responsible for construction oversight during implementation phases of on-site construction.
- Partner with operations, E&I, and Mechanical Maintenance to understand all processes and how teams and individuals are involved and impacted at each step
What you will need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical or chemical engineering preferred
- Must have 5 years of experience in a project, operations, or maintenance engineering role
- Experience with SAP preferred
- Strong problem-solving and process-analysis skills to evaluate data and make decisions to drive process improvements through capital upgrades.
- Possess effective communication skills to clearly convey project-related data to operations, maintenance, and management
- Proven track record of collaboration within cross-functional teams
- Work experience in the paper industry or similar industry preferred
